Snroing and Apnea
What is snoring and apnea?
Snoring, commonly known as "roncopatía," is a phenomenon that a significant portion of the population experiences, and many are unaware of it. Snoring affects men more, and some may start snoring as early as adolescence. In some cases, children may also snore.
Generally, snoring can be caused by various types of nasal obstructions, including a deviated septum, the presence of polyps, enlarged tonsils, a soft palate, a thickened uvula, or certain anatomical abnormalities that obstruct the upper airways..
At Vila Dental, we offer the innovative SomnoMed treatment to effectively address snoring and sleep apnea.
What is SomnoMed?
At Vila Dental, we are a certified clinic for the innovative SomnoMed treatment, which has been scientifically proven.
SomnoMed involves an intraoral device that modifies the position of the jaw, tongue, and other supporting structures of the upper airway. Consequently, this mandibular advancement device aids in maintaining an open airway and prevents respiratory interruptions while the person is sleeping.
This sleep apnea appliance is custom-made and comfortably fitted into the patient's mouth without causing discomfort during sleep.
Differences between CPAP and Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD)
The main difference between the CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) and the Mandibular Advancement Device (a sleep apnea treatment device) is that CPAP provides a constant airflow through a mask to keep the airways open during sleep, while the Mandibular Advancement Device is an appliance that adjusts to the jaw to improve jaw posture during sleep, helping keep the airways open.
CPAP is larger and less portable than the Mandibular Advancement Device, making the latter a better choice for users who travel frequently. Users also report a better quality of sleep with the Mandibular Advancement Device compared to CPAP. Therefore, the MAD is considered a more comfortable alternative to CPAP.
